Dictionary Squared, developed by the University of South Carolina, is a vocabulary learning tool aimed at high school students studying for their college admissions exams. I was contacted to work with a team of developers as the sole graphic designer for a complete overhaul of the website. I created layouts for the home page and internal pages, selected the typography to be used, created all icon and user avatar illustrations, and designed a new logo. These designs were iterated across four themes – classic, nature, technology, and wizardry. When students earn a sufficient amount of points from studying vocabulary, they can then spend their points on changing the theme and/or avatars. Below are examples of the home page for each of the four themes, the avatars (level 1-6, determined by total points earned) associated with each theme, and various achievement badges earned by meeting specific goals.
